a friend of...

Post by PinkLady »

I've heard the following sentences in film:

"He's a friend of dad's."

He's a friend of Charlie's."

are the sentences above grammatically correct?

In case they are correct, what is the difference from saying:

"He's a friend of dad."

He's a friend of Charlie."

Thanks.

Yes, they are correct, while the non-possessive alternative versions are not.
