English grammar question

Post by leelacey »

The question is over this sentence: "For the first time in three years, there were no concerts in January of this year. "

Is that "no" correct, or should it be "there were not any"? It's in a professional context. Thanks.

Either would be grammatical but 'no' is stylistically preferable for formal/written usage.
