I have made up the sentences below.
(1) I haven't come across with anyone who can help me with my job search until now. I'm happy I have met you.
(2) I haven't come across with anyone who can help me with my job search until now. I'm happy I met you.
Most of my friends think "have met" is correct because the it is linked to "until now" in the previous sentence. However, my other friends think the simple past "met" is correct because it sounds better to their NON-native ears.
I am not sure who is correct. Please help me. Thanks.

In BrE, (1) is correct.
AmE speakers, however, would probably happily accept (2).
