A Japanese woman has received thousands of signatures on her footwear petition. Ishikawa Yumi is accusing of discrimination for expecting women to wear high heels at work. Japanese law prohibits sexual discrimination in the ; however, there are no regulations preventing employers from requiring specific work attire for men or . In a recent , 60% of Japanese women reported that they are to wear high heels at work. The hashtag #KuToo, which combines the Japanese words for shoe (kutsu) and pain (kutsuu), is a spin-off of the #MeToo movement.
