Spaceballs 2 News: Dark Helmet Returns

Boom! dust off your capes and pop your goggles because Spaceballs 2 news just dropped straight out of hyperspace. Word just broke that Rick Moranis is suiting back up as Dark Helmet, and Bill Pullman is returning as Lone Starr. Nearly four decades later, the Schwartz is far from forgotten, and it looks like it’s ready to shine again.

Yogurt Returns (Because Why Not?)

That’s right, Mel Brooks himself is returning as Yogurt. Yes, Yogurt, the wisecracking, merchandising guru from outer space. At 98 years young, Mel isn’t just showing up. He’s making it count. The man practically invented parody. Now he’s back to sprinkle some Schwartz on a new generation.

The upcoming sequel is also bringing in Keke Palmer. Her role is still under wraps, but you already know she’s going to command the screen. Josh Gad is writing and producing, and will also star. Josh Greenbaum, the director behind Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, is leading the charge. The movie is set to release in 2027.

Not a Prequel. Not a Reboot. But It’s Both?

The new film has been described as a “Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” And honestly, that sounds like a pitch Mel Brooks made over pastrami on rye. But it works. Spaceballs is absurd, sharp, and timeless, so this Frankenstein label might be exactly the vibe fans want.

Let’s not forget, the original Spaceballs was a 1987 send-up of Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and half the sci-fi section at Blockbuster. It followed Dark Helmet and President Skroob’s plot to steal Druidia’s air. But they’re stopped by Lone Starr, his furry sidekick Barf (played by the late John Candy), and Princess Vespa (played by Daphne Zuniga).

The Return of Legends

Rick Moranis is the comeback story here. The Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids star stepped away from Hollywood in the ’90s to raise his kids. His return is the kind of headline that makes grown nerds cry into their vintage action figures.

Bill Pullman, fresh off roles in The Sinner and A24’s Famous, isn’t just showing up for nostalgia. His performance as Lone Starr helped turn Spaceballs into the cult classic it is today. He’s the Han Solo we didn’t know we needed and the one who actually shows up on time.

New Faces, Same Energy

Keke Palmer is joining the cast fresh off her buzzworthy buddy comedy One of Them Days. She’s got energy, timing, and more charisma than your favorite late-night host. She’s also starring in The Pickup opposite Eddie Murphy this August, and her calendar’s booked straight through.

With Gad helping steer the ship, the jokes will be fast, the references sharper, and the Schwartz? Fully charged. There’s no confirmation on whether characters like Barf or Vespa will return, but fingers crossed for more “moichandising” and fourth wall breaks.

May the Schwartz Rise Again

So here we are after decades of “when’s the sequel?” talk, Spaceballs 2 news is officially on the runway. It’s weird. It’s wild. And it’s exactly what fans have been hoping for. The Schwartz isn’t gone. It’s just been recharging in hyperspace, waiting for the right cast, the right time, and just enough lunacy to make it all work.

And now, that time is 2027. Buckle up.

Watch the Skies, and Watch This Space

As soon as trailers drop, expect a full breakdown here. Until then, practice your Yogurt voice, dust off that giant helmet, and maybe rewatch the original while quoting every line.

Because in the words of Yogurt himself “May the Schwartz be with you.”
